Project: Load testing for temporary road
Location: Chicago, Illinois, USA
Our European agent was approached by a long term contact to discuss the feasibility of creating a floating access road for their projects and operations in wetland areas of the USA.
Due to the immense strength and inherent stability of the AquaDeck, we were keen to demonstrate that not only was it feasible, it was actually an efficient and safe method of meeting their requirements.
A container of the AquaDeck system was sent to the USA and personnel from Europe and the UAE flew out to Chicago to meet and demonstrate the system to the client.
Using just a single layer of AquaDeck, and the clients own wood trackway system, we ran a 16,000kg wheeled loader onto the pontoon structure safely and efficiently.
Compared to other ‘solutions’ where the machinery becomes partly submerged and working personnel can therefore not access the system, the AquaDeck system proved that it can be done, without anyone getting wet. A huge advance in terms of health and safety and equipment security and longevity.
Further tests with different trackway systems are scheduled to be carried out. The addition of a second layer will also increase the rigidity of the pontoon structure and allow larger machines to access the work area.
