Project: Floating Platform for Exhibition
Location: Dubai Mall Lagoon, Dubai, UAE
Our client wanted to create a one of a kind floating exhibition structure in the lagoon adjacent to the Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa.
The total weight of the structure along with the exhibits inside was calculated at over 250 tonnes. In addition, consideration of the live load from an estimated 150 visitors at any one time had to be factored into the design process.
As the lagoon is surrounded by public walkways, the initial build of the project was carried out over a number of nights. As soon as we had created sufficient work space on the water, the build schedule was then amended to allow day time working on the platform, with further deliveries carried out at night.
The floating structure was over 75m in length and 30m in width, excluding the access ramps and various design details along the perimeter of the pontoon system. In total, over 5,200 AquaDeck units were utilised, in a single layer configuration.
A rigid deck system was installed on the floating structure which allowed all power and signal cable to be routed under the deck, eliminating any hazards to the general public within the exhibition. The installation process was scheduled over 4 nights, with the recovery taking a similar duration, again working through the night.
